Everything you need to know about feather
One of the most important characteristics of down is its lightness.
A down cluster, the most valuable part of the goose plumage, weighs only about 2 to 3 milligrams. This means that to obtain a single gram of down, between 300 and 500 clusters are required. It is a natural product of excellent quality, extremely effective and durable if treated properly. The larger and richer in filaments the cluster is, the better it can trap tiny air bubbles within the fabric, thus providing outstanding thermal insulation.
Feathers, on the other hand, are slightly heavier because they consist of a nearly rigid shaft from which barbs branch out. They are highly resistant and elastic elements, mainly used as filling for decorative cushions. As a general rule, the filling of bed duvets consists of at least 75% down and 25% feathers.
The quality of the down is determined by various factors, particularly the breeding methods of the animal and the climate in which it has grown. The best down comes from mature animals that have developed their plumage to the fullest by growing outdoors in a cold climate.
Borgo Piumini carefully selects its suppliers of feathers and down based on farming methods, purchasing exclusively from breeders who guarantee animal welfare.
