What factors determine the quality of a duvet?

The quality of a duvet primarily depends on the type of down and feathers used for its filling.
The best-quality feathers come from mature ducks and geese that have had time to fully develop their plumage. These provide larger down clusters, which retain more air inside the fabric, thus creating a natural thermal insulation.

The thermal capacity of a duvet is another key factor of quality.
The feathers are enclosed in a densely woven cotton fabric, known as “intima”, which prevents them from escaping while still allowing the material to breathe.
This means it can trap the air needed to insulate the sleeper from the surrounding environment, while also releasing the moisture accumulated during the night to remain consistently dry.

Borgo Piumini offers four different thermal weights designed for every season of the year, to suit both mild and cold climates.
A high-quality duvet is also recognizable by its construction and the even distribution of the filling.
The stitching and workmanship must not compromise its warmth or breathability.
Moreover, it is important that the duvet does not lose its shape over time; when regularly fluffed, it should maintain its original characteristics
